title: A position is a sentence
description: Every position on OptionHouse is one sentence, and each coloured word in it is a pill you can change.
---

Every position reads as one sentence:

<p class="oh-sentence">
  I want to make <span class="oh-pill oh-amount">$3,000</span> if&#32;
  <span class="oh-pill oh-asset">ETH</span>&#32;
  <span class="oh-pill oh-verb">ends above</span>&#32;
  <span class="oh-pill oh-strike">$2,800</span> by&#32;
  <span class="oh-pill oh-date">Nov 27</span>
</p>

That sentence is a whole options trade. You never pick contracts or legs. You say what you think, and OptionHouse builds the position.

## The pills

Each coloured word is a pill. Tap one to change it, and the price follows.

| Pill | What it sets |
| --- | --- |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-amount">Amount</span> | What you make if the position wins in full. |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-asset">Asset</span> | What the position is on: ETH, BTC or SOL. |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-verb">Verb</span> | Which way you think it goes. |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-strike">Price</span> | The price, or the two ends of a range. |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-date">Date</span> | When the position ends. |

A colour always means its word. Butter is what you make, sky the asset, salmon the verb, mint the price, lilac the date.

## Five verbs

| Verb | You win if the asset |
| --- | --- |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-verb">ends above</span> | finishes above a price. |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-verb">ends below</span> | finishes below a price. |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-verb">stays between</span> | finishes inside a range. |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-verb">ends near</span> | finishes right at a price. This pays most. |
| <span class="oh-pill oh-verb">breaks out of</span> | finishes outside a range. |

Each verb draws its own shape: flat where you lose, rising where you win.

## Why a ramp

The price in your sentence is where the full amount pays: ETH ending above $3,000 pays all of "make $3,000". A position doesn't jump from nothing to everything there, though. Just short of the price, the payout climbs toward the full amount, so a position can make money a little before its price. That ramp is what lets every position carry a fixed most-you-can-lose.
